Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is an assisted reproductive technology that helps couples and individuals who struggle with infertility as well as some members of the LGBTQ+ community and single parents to be grow their families. First Fertility offers IUI at each of our fertility centers across the United States as part of personalized fertility treatments for our patients.
The fertility centers in our network have some of the most highly trained Fertility Gynecologists and board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologists on staff and state-of-the-art labs to offer the best fertility care possible.
IUI is a procedure that can be completed in the office environment that patients are already familiar with—making the process more comfortable.
Many women may require fertility medication before the IUI procedure to develop more mature eggs, increasing the likelihood of pregnancy. Insemination should be scheduled close to ovulation when the eggs are mature and ready to release from the ovarian follicles.
On the day of insemination, the male partner, or a sperm donor, will provide a sperm sample. The sperm sample will be concentrated to ensure the highest-quality sperm is selected for insemination.
IUI is a short procedure that takes about fifteen minutes. Your fertility specialist will walk you through each step so you know what to expect. Using a flexible catheter, your fertility specialist will inject a sperm concentration directly into the uterus. This allows the sperm to access your eggs more easily and raises the chances of pregnancy.
A fertility specialist will administer a pregnancy test two weeks after insemination to confirm a pregnancy.
Fertility treatments often work best when they are tailored to the individual. Each patient undergoes a fertility assessment to determine potential causes of infertility and what treatment options may be the most successful. Our fertility specialists will create a personalized treatment plan based on this information and the reproductive goals of our patients.
